Our Painting + Finishing services transform 3D printed parts into professionally finished, presentation-ready pieces. Whether it's a chrome-plated trophy for a televised awards show, a gold-plated branded piece for a corporate gifting program, a hero prop for a commercial production, or a trade show display element—your pieces need to look like they were manufactured, not printed. That's what we deliver.
All items are fully sanded to smooth perfection prior to any cosmetic finishing. This includes removing build lines from the surface of 3D printed parts. Sculpted or CNC milled foam parts receive an epoxy hard coat prior to painting.
Our finishing capabilities are what set Hollywood 3D Printing apart from standard 3D printing services. Chrome electroplating and gold electroplating—real metal deposited onto 3D printed resin—produce a mirror-quality metallic surface that looks and feels like cast metal. These finishes are widely used on custom trophies for television productions, corporate awards, branded promotional items, and luxury executive gifts.
We provide Pantone color matching services to match your color swatches or Pantone codes. Our full spray booth capabilities include spray painting, airbrush, and spray gun for high-gloss hard coats or automotive-grade paint finishes.
For figurines, character props, and pieces requiring detailed coloring schemes, we offer hand painting and fine-detail model painting services.
For premium metallic finishes, we offer: chrome electroplating (mirror rhodium finish), gold electroplating (real copper and gold deposited onto 3D printed resin), metallic gold and silver spray painting, and vacuum metalizing. Chrome and gold electroplating require SLA resin-printed parts sanded to 1000-grit smoothness.
For text, logos, and brand graphics on part surfaces, we produce die-cut vinyl decals placed over the smooth finished surface of your painted parts.
For the best outcome, send us reference images that show the paint color, detail patterns, or surface finish you'd like applied to your 3D printed parts. If you're targeting a specific color scheme, include example images of other objects with similar appearances that you'd like to match.
For brand-compliant work, provide Pantone codes or physical color swatches. We test matches under multiple lighting conditions to ensure accuracy.
Painting + Finishing adds production time to a 3D printing or fabrication order. Single-color Pantone-matched spray painting typically adds 2–3 days. Detailed hand painting can add up to one week. Chrome electroplating or gold electroplating typically adds 2 weeks to project lead times—due to the fine level of surface preparation required and the multi-step metallic plating process.
If your deadline is tight, mention it in your quote request and we'll advise on what's achievable. Rush options are sometimes available depending on current production capacity.

Metallic gold painted parts are not quite as lustrous as gold electroplated parts, but lead times are much shorter—adding only 2–3 days versus 2 weeks for plating. This is a great option for custom trophies and branded items that must be finished on a tight deadline.

Painting + Finishing services are provided as an additional step in an order which already involves fabrication of 3D Printed or sculpted foam parts.
If you need your parts to be cosmetically finished after fabrication, start your project by requesting a quote to build your parts, and include a description of your desired cosmetic appearance. We do not accept ready-made parts from customers for finishing.
Send us your own images or artwork, or provide example images showing other existing objects with similar appearances you'd like to match.
If you need to match a specific color or set of colors for your brand, provide color swatches or Pantone codes. For chrome or gold plating, reference images of the specific metallic finish you want are helpful.
Your models are fabricated using your chosen method of 3D printing or foam sculpting. Raw parts are then fully sanded and smoothed to prepare for cosmetic finishing.
Once all surfaces are prepped, our team of artists paints and finishes your parts to perfection. Chrome and gold electroplating require additional prep and multi-step plating processes; lead times for plated orders are longer. Painted parts are not released until fully dry and cured.
Parts which have been painted or custom-finished are packed according to the best method to avoid damage or blemishes during transportation. For delicate or high-value finished pieces—particularly chrome-plated and gold-plated items—we use foam-lined custom packaging to ensure safe arrival.
